154 Lessons on <strong>The</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Patanjali</strong>Remember that the quantum <strong>of</strong> your output on theproductive lines decides the comforts you receive without anyeffort. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> student is the only one who can understandthe difference in the application <strong>of</strong> the triangle, and he is theonly one who has the power to choose the second application,that culminates in work and not in comfort. If work were tobe your goal, comfort will be with you. If comfort were to beyour goal, destruction will be the result. This second application<strong>of</strong> triangle is called “the duty-culmination triangle”(Dharmottara). It is also called the triangle that leads you tolay the Law. <strong>The</strong> scriptures which we call the Ithihasa andPurana injunct that the ruler <strong>of</strong> any country should direct thepeople through his administrative abilities into the triangle thatleads to lay the Law. <strong>The</strong> Yogi is expected to know this andapply his samadhi and Samyama to this triangle while leading a<strong>Yoga</strong>-life. He is the right person to understand things in a rightand impersonal perspective and he is injuncted to induce theindividual as well as the ruler into this triangle and to radiatethe presence <strong>of</strong> the Lord-consciousness through His vehiclesin terms <strong>of</strong> His work according to the <strong>Yoga</strong>-living. Socialism,communism, materialism, or spiritualism, anything is boundto fail and lead to destruction when conducted by persons wholive in their not-self. Unless one is a full- fledged Yogi, he cannotmake a success <strong>of</strong> any <strong>of</strong> these idealogies. Anyone <strong>of</strong> them isenough to bring solution to mankind when applied to the societyby an adept in Samadhi and Samyama.Suppose I start my career as a socialist when I am inpoverty. Gradually I gain importance and goodwill enough t<strong>of</strong>ind myself a political leader. You can very easily imagine howI behave. I will contrive to occupy a palatial building and ownseveral motor cars and chartered planes and I argue that theyare necessary to serve the poor and distribute wealth amongthem by plundering the rich. <strong>The</strong>n people find me as a nuisance,
