At every step you shouldknow where to start.Understand the work you have to do and the work thatis not yours. Let your curiosity, vanity or fame must not makeyou poke your nose into things that do not belong to you.Indiscriminate, emotional expansion of work leads to manytroubles and entanglements. Your physical and mental vehiclesshatter to pieces when you try to do all sorts of things (thoughthey are good). Unless you have a programme for controlledactivity you may find vampires among people who can makeyou run crazily on the streets. Then you will be just runningwithout being able to do any service to anyone Then there isno Yoga. Purification of affection is the next step. Let youraffectionate feelings for others be not polluted by your emotionalnature. It is a process of distillation which you will graduallylearn. Affections belong to the heart whereas emotion belongsto the disturbance of the spleen and the liver. The emotionalactivity belongs to the naval centre, the Solar Plexus. Affectionsbelong to the heart-centre. When a person is agitated for someoneor restless about the welfare of his son or wife, then his affectionsare polluted by emotion. When the affection is pure the mind istranquil and the procedure is positive towards what is preciselyneeded and the application is instantaneous.Tapas, or fiery aspiration that forms the first item of KriyaYoga, should be practised in thought, word and deed when itincludes the items described above. The second item of KriyaYoga is to study and utter scriptures. Utterance is as importantas study. This is because the scriptures carry a double significance,(a) the content of the text and (b) the music or the sound as theKey that is imbedded among the words used in scriptures.“The scripture of Veda Vyasa is decorated with words in whichthe sounds are studded like gemstones. It is also embellishedwith symbols, human and divine”. Says a disciple of Veda Vyasa.
