Lesson - 5 87like knowing once again how the Kingdom <strong>of</strong> God goes. Youwill find the pious beard finely shaved and the pilgrim is onceagain found on the busy streets <strong>of</strong> Geneva. At every step curiosityspoils the whole game. Curiosity gives the unnecessary andnon uniform speed to the mind. When the speed is not uniformthere will be many accelerations and retardations. Rugged isthe path and shockful is the journey. You will receive too manybumps before you see the platform <strong>of</strong> Geneva. This is what<strong>Patanjali</strong> warns. He defines intensity as the uniform rate <strong>of</strong> increase.If you mind your work and proceed accordingly you will gainsuch a speed. “Slow and sure wins the race” is the advice <strong>of</strong>the tortoise. If there is no curiosity then the progress is uniformand uninterrupted. Do not imagine how the Kundalini beginsto unwind and make a hiss. Let it do, you are not concerned.Do not imagine how the three-petalled flower <strong>of</strong> Muladharaopens and how the trunk <strong>of</strong> the Elephant-God Ganesha roars.Do what <strong>Patanjali</strong> advises and be sure that everything isaccomplished.<strong>The</strong>n again there are three different modes <strong>of</strong> applyingthe Yogic awareness. 1) <strong>The</strong> s<strong>of</strong>t application. 2) <strong>The</strong> Sharpapplication. 3) <strong>The</strong> Moderate type <strong>of</strong> application. This is anaspect which is quite different from the previous one. Whenthe Yogic-consciousness is felt without any motive, then theapplication is either s<strong>of</strong>t or moderate. When you are not muchmindful <strong>of</strong> the progress it is s<strong>of</strong>t. If you are ardent and dissatisfiedby nature then the type <strong>of</strong> application is sharp. When you areardent in the beginning you will begin to speak <strong>of</strong> <strong>Yoga</strong> onlywith any fellow that comes across on the street. <strong>The</strong>n you willbe ridiculed as a buffoon, within a short period you will knowthe effects <strong>of</strong> the modality <strong>of</strong> your application. You will feel theinconvenience <strong>of</strong> the ridicule. This is not what is meant by anintense application. <strong>The</strong> attitude should be in tact with theawareness described previously.
