Australian energy consumption fell by 1.5 per cent in 2013–14. Growth in
energy consumption in the transport, mining and commercial and services
sectors was largely offset by declines in energy use in the manufacturing,
electricity supply and residential sectors.
In 2013–14 transport overtook the electricity supply sector as the largest
energy user, growing by 1.1 per cent. Energy consumption in the electricity
supply sector declined by 2.8 per cent in 2013–14. Energy consumption in
the manufacturing sector also fell by 6.9 per cent.
However, transport, electricity supply and manufacturing remained the
largest energy users in 2013–14, accounting for around three-quarters of
Australia’s energy consumption.
