The electricity generation sector rema<strong>in</strong>s the largest user of gas <strong>in</strong><br />
<strong>Australia</strong>, account<strong>in</strong>g for 38 per cent of gas consumption <strong>in</strong> 2013–14. The<br />
manufactur<strong>in</strong>g sector is the second largest user of gas <strong>in</strong> <strong>Australia</strong>, and<br />
accounted for 31 per cent of consumption. The largest consumers with<strong>in</strong><br />
this category were the basic non-ferrous metals and, chemical, polymer<br />
and product manufactur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustries. The majority of gas consumption<br />
<strong>in</strong> the m<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>dustry was <strong>in</strong> Western <strong>Australia</strong> and accounted for 53 per<br />
cent of total consumption <strong>in</strong> this sector 2013–14. Victoria consumed the<br />
majority of gas <strong>in</strong> the residential sector.<br />
