cause the appearance of domestic violence, which wasn’t
even there to begin with.
How, at the end of the day, you were able to get in touch
with experts, psychologists, criminologists for them to
support your project with their knowledge?
I started addressing them as a criminologist, and therefore
as an expert myself, not only as an artist. I did not get this
degree to try and find criminals, I needed the knowledge
to protect human rights. It has opened a lot of doors
for me. Together, with my newly formed team, we are
developing extensive educational materials. I wouldn’t be
able to do it by myself as I don’t have the psychological,
psychiatric, or pedagogical knowledge. I needed experts
in these fields. I can share some secret with you – I am in
contact with one of the most well-known specialists on
the psyche of serial killers in the world. I would like to give
the people the courage to act when they see violence,
I want them to feel and identify the symptoms.
Are you opening the Pandora box?
I realized that for a lot of adults, that have experienced
this kind of violence, this exhibition will be a key to
understanding the reasons behind evil. It will open them
up. It will allow them to understand what the mechanism
behind the evil is. The children are innocent. I decided
that it would be too traumatic to only come back to the
memories. That’s where the idea of creating a supportive
group of experts came from: their help, the material we
prepare in every country in which we will present the
exhibition, giving the resources on where to seek help,
where their questions can be answered, are all crucial.
Alicja, for whom is this exhibition?
For future and current parents. For sensitive people, for
the ones that have experienced violence, for the ones
who are afraid of it. For the people that are indifferent
to evil. For the ones who are curious in what ways art can
express a topic as difficult as this one. The audience which
wants the thrills because they have watched too much
true crime on Netflix, won’t find what they are looking
for. Technically the exhibition is only for of-age viewers.
I want to stress this: its main aim is to educate every
single citizen of the world, of every belief. This exhibition
is a tribute to the experts who explore the minds to
prevent such tragedies. It’s a bow for every member
o f se r v ic e s that are burde ne d by the ir re spo nsibilitie s.
It is also a thank you to all of my teachers.
What do you see through your magnifying glass?
Human harm. Fault. Whose? Let’s be vigilant.
You have said some beautiful words – this exhibition
is a promise that you have made to your daughter.
Can you comment on that?
I have promised my daughter that I will do everything
in my power for her to have a beautiful childhood,
development, knowledge and that I will fight for the same
for other children.
What next, can you tell us?
Traveling with the exhibition will take around two years.
But I am already working on a new idea. Next challenge.
