inspiring! So, the halls were the tutor number one. I really wanted to add my spirit as well to the halls and studios for the future young artists. It’s why I was clearly realizing the responsibility of being a student of Imperial Academy of Arts! I never thought about my future career as an artist. It seems I was always being an artist. My studying process hasn’t stopped yet. I continue growing and learning something new every day. But now I move on by myself without my art community, without my professors and their advice. To be honest I miss that period of my life. Our professors were exceptional, knowledgeable, extraordinary, talented artists! Also, they were simply good friends and givers! How can’t I appreciate the time I spent there! I recall it with great gratitude! You have been painting from very early childhood. Did you always know that you would become a painter? Yes, I always knew that I would became a painter. I never doubted that. So, my parents never asked me about my future, like all adults love to do. It was clear even for them, that my feature will be connected with the arts. What profession would be attractive to you if you had not become a painter? I would be a movie director or a cinematographer. It would be a visual work as well. I see the significant meaning of art in a visual picture. I think a visual pattern fulfils the senses more than words. It’s how I feel. If I were a movie director my movies would be verbally very laconic and concise, but the cinematography would be meaningful. their own stories if needed. But not me. Colours dance with lines, bold contrast with gentle fuzziness, brightness with silver shades. Here are some secrets of my passion! My goal is to share my energy with my audience, to unveil my soul by combining colours and shades of the brush strokes. What is your painting process? Do you have the picture in your head before you start painting, do you make plans, or you improvise and let the brush guide you? The painting process is always different. I never do sketches. I create the painting in my mind. It’s always been this way. I can’t start before I see it clearly in my mind. (But then what happens is a totally different story!) Of course, the brush leads me. No doubts about that. But it’s a solid duet – the picture in my mind and a freewheeling brush make the act of art happen. It’s some sort of waltz between my mind, my eyes and my hands. It’s sacrament and mystery, which you always trust. The colour combinations in your paintings are extraordinarily vibrant. Do you have a favourite colour? Sometimes I feel that fall colours are my favourite. Fire colours represent my hot temper. It’s kind of a joke, but there is some truth in it. I was born in September and been extremely inspired in this spectacular season. Autumn is a very poetic time. Alexandr Pushkin, who was the most popular Russian poet from 19 century, wrote his the most famous poetic series in fall, called Boldinskaya Osen’ (Boldin Autumn). I’ve always been connected to his soul and his poetry, especially from this period of time. Fall is time to contemplate and absorb the beauty. The Nature is extremely talented. Our job is just carefully with great respect learn from it. What stimulates your creativity? Colour is the most inspiring factor in my creativity. As my teacher once said: “It doesn’t matter what we paint! It matters how we paint!” This statement so matches my attitude to art. As I said earlier I see meaning in a visual picture! I don’t create any story behind the picture. The story is our feelings we get from the paintings. Just feelings and emotions. The viewers create Who is your master? Which artist do you respect the most? Gustav Klimt is definitely my master. I admire his landscapes, the way how he sees the world, colours, vibration of lights, compositions, delicacy. His art speaks to me. There are many artists who inspire me! Antonio Mancini, Nicolai Fechin are magnificent painters whose art is iconic for me! Their colour combination and strong-willed brush strokes amaze and discipline me at the same time. POST SCRIPTUM31 31
