Scriven’s Goal-Free Model<br />

Scriven provides a transdisciplinary model of evaluation in which one<br />

draws from an objectivist view of evaluation (Michael Scriven, 1991a,<br />

1991b). Scriven defined three characteristics to this model:<br />

epistemological, political, <strong>and</strong> disciplinary. Some of the important<br />

features of Scriven’s goal free evaluation stress on validity, reliability,<br />

objectivity/credibility, importance/timeliness, relevance, scope, <strong>and</strong><br />

efficiency in the whole process of teaching <strong>and</strong> learning. Youker<br />

(2013) exp<strong>and</strong>ed on the model to create general principles <strong>for</strong> guiding<br />

<strong>Design</strong> <strong>for</strong> <strong>Learning</strong> 283
