Yet another type of graphic element that is somewhat infrequently<br />

used is the trans<strong>for</strong>mational picture, which provides a mnemonic that<br />

facilitates retrieval of in<strong>for</strong>mation from memory at a later time (see<br />

Figure 4). If the intent of the visual element is to help the learner<br />

memorize in<strong>for</strong>mation through the association of a related picture,<br />

then the creation of a trans<strong>for</strong>mational picture may be worth the time<br />

<strong>and</strong> ef<strong>for</strong>t to design.<br />
