Towards a Theoretical Perspective<br />

The Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework (Figure 1), developed<br />

almost 20 years ago, drew together the useful categories of Social<br />

Presence, Cognitive Presence, <strong>and</strong> Teaching Presence to describe the<br />

“dynamics of an online educational experience” in light of<br />

asynchronous, text-based group discussions (Garrison et al., 2010, p.<br />

6).<br />
