Towards a Theoretical Perspective
The Community of Inquiry (CoI) framework (Figure 1), developed
almost 20 years ago, drew together the useful categories of Social
Presence, Cognitive Presence, and Teaching Presence to describe the
“dynamics of an online educational experience” in light of
asynchronous, text-based group discussions (Garrison et al., 2010, p.
6).
