REGIONAL CLUB REPORTS
Fermanagh County show hosted the Ivomec Super
Simmental Pair of the Year. The winners were homebred
heifers Lisglass Helena and Lisglass Honey owned by Leslie
and Christopher Weatherup, Ballyclare. The Lisglass herd
also won the prestigious competition in 2016 and claimed
the runner up award in 2017. Runners up were the Lurgan
show qualifiers Ranfurly Impeccable and Ranfurly Weikel
18th from David and Jonny Hazelton’s herd in Dungannon.
Judge for the day was Simmental Young Member Zara
Clarke from Tynan, County Armagh. The competition, now
in its 13th year, is generously sponsored by Boehringer.
Male and Female of the year came to a conclusion at
Fermanagh show with David and Jonny Hazelton claiming
Male of the Year with Ranfurly Impeccable. He has been
unbeaten in his class chalking up 6 successive breed
championships this season. The Reserve Male of the
Year was Woodford Iceberg bred by the late Mrs Thelma
Gorman. This bull joined Jason Whitcroft’s Whitdrum herd
in October 2017. Woodford Iceberg was Reserve Male
Champion at both Lurgan and Armagh shows. Claiming
the Female of the Year award was the January 2017
Cleenagh Ivy owned by Wesley Abraham of Irvinestown.
This heifer was Reserve Supreme Champion at both
Balmoral and Clogher shows. Two heifers tied on equal
points to share the Reserve Female of the Year title. They
were Cloone Hilda, owned by Nigel Glasgow of Cookstown,
and Ranfurly Weikel 18th, owned by David and Jonny
Hazelton of Dungannon. Cloone Hilda was purchased in
Roscommon last Autumn. This heifer was Supreme Breed
Champion at both Ballymena and Omagh shows, and
Reserve Champion at Armagh show. She also scooped
the Beef Interbreed and Supreme Overall Championship
at Ballymena. Ranfurly Weikel 18th was Reserve Supreme
Champion at Lurgan and Omagh shows and was Reserve
Female Champion at Ballymena, Armagh and Castlewellan
shows.
