To the Emerald Isle in September we flew

With the Simmental Group, South East

To meet some super Irish Breeders

And admire each Simmental beast

Mrs Jukes was in charge, quite new to her role

And sometimes felt things a bit sticky

Hurrying the chattering party along

To the next farm was quite tricky!

Her worry, pre arranged ‘Dinner at Eight’

At the Hotel where we were to stay

Our first Race View visit took longer than

planned

The Hotel at least two hours away

We were still to see the Clonagh sizable herd

Mrs Jukes rang the hotel to explain

At Garrett’s we saw super cows and young stock

And enjoyed great hospitality again

We sat around chatting as the clock ticked on by

Thoughts of Dinner went down with the sun

We eventually left and drove back to our base

Some went out , some, Dinner.. there was none !

Next day after breakfast to Strokestown we sped

Arriving with excitement and glee

A fantastic show with many wonderful calves

An amazing spectacle to see

With families and friends and a flurry of soap

Intense combing and prep everywhere

One animal tied to a branch of a tree!

Sound of generators filling the air

The competitive spirit was not dampened by rain

That eventually rendered us all rather soaked

Champions were crowned to their supporters

delight

As always, some disappointed felt a bit choked

Uncomfortably damp, to we returned our hotel

Having had a most enjoyable day

Next day, off to Dublin for all to fly home

With Ballybane Herd visit on the way

As we drove through the beautiful gates

And up to an immaculate yard

We knew we were in for a treat

To be completely impressed was no hard

Not only cattle, a picture in the Parkland sun

But thoroughbred mares, what a treat

With their beautiful foals so incredibly tame

Quite endearing, not a kick or a bite

We reluctantly left, to airport we drove

All going our own separate ways

With wonderful memories of our Irish friends

Thanks to all, lovely trip, happy days.
