A DANISH ADVENTURE
Penny Lally July 2018
A group of us all met at Stansted
A gathering of Simmental folk
The weather exceedingly temperate
So hot, almost beyond a joke
Apart from a bit of a drama
A threesome just might miss the plane
They arrived, a bit flustered and breathless
Muttering ‘something was really a pain!’
Calm ensued, we landed at Aarhus
Then coached through Danish countryside
To the Herd of Jensen Hendrik Kvist
With a stock bull, ex AI bull ‘Guide’
Hendrik’s day job a busy ‘rat catcher’
His strong cows looked well in the dust
We had lunch and then off to our Hotel
Where a cold shower was really a must!
We had a wonderful dinner with Henning
Who gave us an informative talk
Then a certain few went off to the bars
And others enjoyed a quiet walk
SIMMENTAL REVIEW 2018
First visit, day two, to Brian Anderson
Their Canadian Embryo bull ‘Fidal Lexus’ used
Good cows, then to see Henning’s cattle
Super lunch and Schnapps kept us amused!
We were then off to visit ‘the Dentist’
But stopped at a beach on the way
40k long and quite lovely, we paddled
The North Sea was so warm I must say
Stewart’s handkerchief, knotted, his new head gear!
Like a typical Brit when abroad
He had us laughing like fools at his antics
Then to the coach where we climbed back aboard
The Dentist’s herd, Stenbakken, was outstanding
Big easy fleshing long cows we admired
Bull ‘Linde General’ and ‘Stenbakken Krole’ looked well
With good calves that both of them sired
We went back to the Home of dear Henning
For a dinner under the shade of his trees
Such wonderful kind hospitality
Special memories made from times as these
Next day to the wellknown herd ‘Lykke’
Where their show animals still happily grazed
A feast for our eyes of fine cattle
The size of their heifers left us amazed
Langmose next, fine cattle and welcome ice cream
Then picnic at a stunning Fjord which was hot
Last herd ‘Linde’ cows and calves to be seen
We chatted with the family in their lovely spot
In evening a fabulous BBQ dinner
Sat around a long table was fun
Lots of laughs and then in the bar till quite late
Our wonderful trip almost done
The final day at the show was terrific
Mr Donnelly had a big task ahead
Judging an amazing array of fine cattle
He got the job right people said!
We had dinner with the exhibitors later
Most hospitable folk , now our friends
Thank you Henning so much we all loved it
We’ll be back!............now this ditty ends.
You will be familiar with some of the herd names we visited
during the trip, Birkegaard Simmental, Lykke Simmental,
Stenbakken Simmental, Rosa Simmental, Fedal Simmental,
Langmose Simmental, Linde Simmental.
Our sincere thanks go to Henning for organising the trip;
all the herds that kindly welcomed us, and the outstanding
hospitality that everyone provided.
