JIM GOLDIE

ONE OF OUR

Council Members

I

was born and brought up on a Dairy Farm in North Ayrshire, Scotland.

At the age of 16, I left school to work on the family farm with my

parents. My first interest in Simmental cattle came from helping my

then neighbours, Alan & Janet Marshall (Silverhills).

We moved to Newbie Mains, Annan, Dumfriesshire in 1993, where we

built up a herd of Pedigree Holstein Friesian cows to over 200 head plus

young stock. We classified, and milk recorded and through a lot of hard

work and dedication we managed to achieve 2nd highest production herd

on 2 X daily milking in Scotland 2002, at just under 11,000Kgs.

It was in 2004 that we (I say we but I mean myself and Patricia my now

wife!) started the ‘Newbiemains’ Simmental herd. Our first Simmental

heifer was a gift from Patricia’s father Alex Ross (Monaduff Simmentals),

Monaduff Rosebud. We continued by purchasing our type of females

through sales in Scotland, England, Wales, Northern Ireland and Southern

Ireland (not to discriminate!).

I have had a lot of help and advice from many Simmental Breeders up

and down the country but I have to say the late Hector Macaskill was a

big inspiration for me.

We are hoping to continue to take the Simmental Breed forward -

there is always room for improvement. With a little help from my sons (I

have four!) Andrew, Robert, Niall and of course ‘’wee’’ Jim, we will continue

to have a lot of fun and laughs along the way. We have been very

fortunate to meet a lot of fantastic people through the breed and also

make a lot of really good friends.
