Presentation of the Company:<br />
The <strong>European</strong> Business and Innovation Centre <strong>Network</strong><br />
(EBN) is a non-profit making association based in Brussels.<br />
Its mission is to promote the growth of Business and<br />
Innovation Centres (<strong>BIC</strong>s), the aim of which is to create new<br />
small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) and / or new<br />
activities within existing SMEs based on new ideas with<br />
growth potential.<br />
EBN was set up in 1984 as a joint initiative of the <strong>European</strong><br />
Commission, <strong>European</strong> industry leaders and the first<br />
pioneering Business and Innovation Centres. Over the last<br />
two decades, EBN has become a reference point in Europe<br />
on innovation, spin-off, incubation, entrepreneurship,<br />
SMEs, and regional economic development.<br />
Today, EBN is the leading pan-<strong>European</strong> network bringing<br />
together 200+ Business and Innovation Centres (<strong>BIC</strong>s), and<br />
similar organisations such as incubators, innovation and<br />
entrepreneurship centres across the enlarged Europe.<br />
Since January 2002, EBN holds a contract with the <strong>European</strong><br />
Commission DG Enterprise and Industry, permitting EBN to<br />
manage the licence of the <strong>BIC</strong> trademark on behalf of the<br />
<strong>European</strong> Commission. EBN implements a professional and<br />
specific certification and quality system, using both process<br />
and result indicators and enabling the development of a<br />
network of excellence through the integration of a quality<br />
approach.<br />
The <strong>European</strong> <strong>BIC</strong> <strong>Network</strong> is a community of more than 2<br />
500 professionals in more than 30 countries around Europe<br />
and its neighbourhood. Over the last three years, <strong>BIC</strong>s have<br />
supported more than 59 000 business plans and more than<br />
11 500 tenants (enterprises) are located in the <strong>BIC</strong>s<br />
incubators, supporting more than 70 000 jobs.<br />
Key Products and Services<br />
With a team of ten people based in the headquarters in Brussels,<br />
EBN organises various activities for its members and for SMEs,<br />
including the implementation of international projects/ contracts<br />
with the EC, and promoting the development of Business &<br />
Innovation Centres inside and outside the <strong>European</strong> Union:<br />
1. Policy: institutional representation and members’<br />
promotion in both the private and public sector (local, regional,<br />
national, <strong>European</strong> level)<br />
2. <strong>European</strong> projects and thematic networks: EBN has<br />
significant experience in coordinating and implementing<br />
international projects / contracts with the EC and thematic<br />
networks, and successfully participated in a large number of<br />
initiatives since its creation in 1984<br />
3. Technical Assistance and Quality: feasibility studies and<br />
technical support for the setting up of new <strong>BIC</strong>s, advice and<br />
assistance to candidate and existing <strong>BIC</strong>s<br />
4. Information and animation: communication of technical<br />
assets via newsletters and publications, organization of and<br />
participation in international and national events, exchange of<br />
knowledge and best practices among members of the network<br />
