Presentation of the Company:
The main research aim of laboratory is creating and
improving methods of satellite data processing
(AVHRR, SeaWiFS, Meteosat, MSG) to the level of
thematic maps and using it for investigation of processes
undergoing in the sea. Thematic maps are characterized
as:
� fields of physical parameters marked directly on the
base of satellite data (i.e. field of sea surface
temperature)
� maps describing different aspects of natural state of
sea environment, which creation is conditioned by
including data concerning spatial distribution of
physical, chemical and biological parameters in the
sea (i.e. maps describing phenomenon of
phytoplankton bloom, dynamics and range of
terrestrial waters propagation, depth of euphotic
zone etc.)
The main source of information for realization of that goals
is University of Gdansk satellite data receiving station, for
functioning which the laboratory LRSSA is responsible.
Basic types of software used in our work are:
� GIS: ArcInfo including extentions Spatial Analyst and
Geostatistical Analyst,
� Image Processing: IDL, TNTMips, IDRISI, SeaDAS
The final goal of our laboratory team research activity is
examination, generally in cooperation with specialists
who represent different field of activity, all processes
proceeding in the sea, which origin, mechanism,
intensity and other characteristic features can be
recognized and described largely owing to aid
provided by thematic maps.
