Presentation of the Company:
IETU is an independent R&D unit acting under the Ministry of
Environment. The goal of the scientific and research activities of
IETU is to develop the scientific basis for policies and strategies
aimed at sustainable development of the environment of urbanised
and industrialised areas.
Research activities:
� Land Management (Assessment of agricultural land for
safe food production, analyses of plant exposure reduction
to soil pollutants, characteristics of sites contaminated with
organic and inorganic pollutants, removal of heavy metals
from soil using plants, development of land reclamation
concepts and management scenarios, land life cycle
analysis)
� Integrated Atmospheric Protection (Environmental
impact assessment of air pollution sources, programs of
air protection for areas of local and regional scale, effect of
air pollutants in the aspect of land surface and water
contamination, monitoring of air pollution, inventory of air
pollutants emission in a town, regional and national scale,
management of Water Resources, strategies for surface
and groundwater protection, sustainable management of
river basins)
� Soil and Groundwater Remediation Technologies
(Development of cost – effective and environmentally
friendly technologies for soil and groundwater remediation,
environmentally safe utilisation of by-products from
remediation technologies, integrated Environmental
Monitoring and Modelling, measurement and modelling of
the contaminants uptake by plants, impact of
environmental pollution on plant organisms, cycling of
pollutants and mineral nutrients in forest ecosystems)
� Environmental Policy (Strategic environmental analyses
and assessment, guidelines for sustainable development
programs, development of new tools supporting decisionmaking
processes aimed at enforcement of the
sustainability principle in environmental management,
geostatistical analyses, innovative techniques for
acquisition and processing of spatial data for
redevelopment purposes, analysis of spatial data for
sustainable environmental management and sustainable
planning, modelling of contamination plumes migration in
remedial actions)
