Presentation of the Company:
The mandate of the Space Environment Division (SED) is
research and development in the area of space
environment interaction with materials, space materials
durability prediction, evaluation and enhancement. The
main goal is to generate innovative material surface
treatment and surface modification technologies as well as
sophisticated multifunctional LEO, GEO and Planatery
environment accelerated testing simulators. Various
research and development activities are going on in space
materials treatment, characterization, surface analysis,
and properties evaluation, including international
collaborative research activities in the area of Space
Environment and Effects (SEE).
Key Products and Services
1) The Variable Energy Multifunctional
Environmental Simulator (VEMEStm) is a modern fully
computerized experimental facility designed and created at
ITL Inc. for testing, qualification, and lifetime prediction of
spacecraft materials and coating in simulated conditions of
the LEO space environment. The SES currently has the
ability to expose materials under high vacuum to atomic
oxygen (AO), vacuum ultraviolet radiation (VUV), nearultraviolet
radiation (NUV), and temperature cycling (TC)
to assess their durability and study the material damage
mechanisms.
2) One of ITL's principal businesses is the development of
innovative new surface modification technologies for
polymers and composites, in order to add value to existing
materials.
Photosil - the surface treatment originally developed to
protect polymer materials from atomic oxygen erosion and
polymer degradation often found in low Earth orbiting
spacecraft
Implantox - protective ion implantation technology
Surface Texturing - highly diffuse reflective surface
technology
