In general, a cell can contain nodes from different <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong><br />

versions.<br />

Note: Usually version n-3 is the last level that can be included in such a mixed<br />

cell. However refer to the documentation of the specific versions that you want<br />

to use, to make sure that you have a supported environment.<br />

To administer such a topology, the deployment manager has to be at the level of<br />

the highest node version. A <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Network Deployment<br />

<strong>V7.0</strong> cell for example, can contain V5.1, V6.0, V6.1 ,and <strong>V7.0</strong> nodes (Figure 3-18<br />

on page 78). This requires that the deployment manager is at <strong>V7.0</strong>.<br />
