13.1 Available feature packs<br />

The currently available feature packs for <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> <strong>V7.0</strong><br />

are:<br />

► <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Feature Pack for Web 2.0<br />

► <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Feature Pack for Service Component<br />

Architecture (SCA)<br />

Two previously available feature packs for <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> V6.1<br />

have been integrated into <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> <strong>V7.0</strong> and therefore you<br />

can use their features without additional installation procedures. The integrated<br />

features packs are:<br />

► <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Feature Pack for Web Services<br />

► <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Feature Pack for EJB 3.0<br />

13.2 <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Feature Pack for<br />

Web 2.0<br />

This section describes the <strong>IBM</strong> <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> <strong>V7.0</strong> Feature<br />

Pack for Web 2.0. It has a short introduction to Web 2.0 technologies and an<br />

overview of the contents of the feature pack.<br />

13.2.1 Introduction to Web 2.0<br />

Web 2.0 is a term that describes a set of new technologies designed and created<br />

to improve existing technologies in the World Wide Web (WWW). Web 2.0 is not<br />

a specification and is subject then, to different definitions and interpretations. In<br />

this publication we have considered those technologies included in the feature<br />

pack.<br />

Key technologies and concepts<br />

The main technologies and concepts being used for building Web 2.0<br />

applications are described in this section.<br />

► Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax)<br />

Ajax is an open technique for creating rich user experiences in Web-based<br />

applications that do not require Web browser plug-ins. It is the most important<br />

technology in the Web 2.0 world. Its main characteristic is that, by exchanging<br />

small amounts of data with the server, it renders Web pages in the Web<br />
