steps to build a CIP.<br />

The CIP or IIP can be installed on the target system through two methods:<br />

► Installation wizard<br />

► Silent installer using a response file<br />

The benefit of the Installation Factory is mainly in terms of installation time (fix<br />

packs, for example, are directly incorporated into the installation image) and in<br />

consistency and repeatability of the installations. This gives you a quick pay-back<br />

for the time required to build the CIP and IIP.<br />

Centralized installation manager<br />

Another product feature which can be used to install and update <strong>WebSphere</strong><br />

<strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> Network Deployment installations is the CIM. More<br />

information about CIM can be found in 9.6.3, “Centralized installation manager<br />

(CIM)” on page 328.<br />

For <strong>WebSphere</strong> maintenance tasks, you need to install the <strong>IBM</strong> Update Installer<br />

for <strong>WebSphere</strong> Software <strong>V7.0</strong> on your system. The Update Installer is provided<br />

as a separate installer and needs to be installed on each system running<br />

<strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong>. The installer for the Update Installer can be<br />

found on the first supplemental media or through the <strong>IBM</strong> support download site<br />

at the following Web page:<br />
