11.2.1 What was in Feature Pack for V6.1<br />

The Feature Pack for Web Services for <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong><br />

V6.1extended the capabilities of V6.1 to enable Web services messages to be<br />

sent asynchronously, reliably, and securely, focusing on interoperability with other<br />

vendors. It also provided support for the Java API for XML Web Services<br />

(JAX-WS) 2.0 programming model.<br />

The Feature Pack added support for the following features (also present in<br />

<strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> <strong>V7.0</strong>):<br />

► Web services standards<br />

– Web Services Reliable Messaging (WS-RM) 1.1<br />

– Web Services Addressing (WS-Addressing) 1.0<br />

– Web Services Secure Conversation (WS-SC) 1.0<br />

– SOAP 1.2<br />

– SOAP Message Transmission Optimization Mechanism (MTOM) 1.0<br />

► Standards-based programming models<br />

– Java API for XML Web Services (JAX-WS) 2.0<br />

– Java Architecture for XML Binding (JAXB) 2.0<br />

– SOAP with Attachments API for Java (SAAJ) 1.3<br />

– Streaming API for XML (StAX) 1.0<br />

11.2.2 Features added to <strong>WebSphere</strong> <strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> <strong>V7.0</strong><br />

In addition to the enhancements brought about by the Feature Pack for Web<br />

services, there are other major Web services enhancements in <strong>WebSphere</strong><br />

<strong>Application</strong> <strong>Server</strong> <strong>V7.0</strong>:<br />

► Web Services for Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 1.2 (JSR-109)<br />

specification is now supported.<br />

► Support for JAX-WS 2.1, extending the functionality of JAX-WS 2.0 to provide<br />

support for the WS-Addressing in a standardized API.<br />

► Added support for W3C (World Wide Web Consortium) SOAP over JMS (Java<br />

Message Service) 1.0 (submission draft) for JAX-WS.<br />

► By default, HTTP chunking is used when sending MTOM (Message<br />

Transmission Optimization Mechanism) attachments, thus allowing for greater<br />

scalability and improved performance. This feature does not require the<br />

applications to be changed, but it can be disabled if desired.<br />

► Added support for WS-Policy 1.5 and related specifications such as<br />

WS-SecurityPolicy 1.2.<br />

► WS-Addressing is now based on JAX-WS.<br />
