<strong>Large</strong> <strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Ecosystems</strong><br />

The LME approach and its five modules (productivity, fish and fisheries, pollution<br />

and ecosystem health, socioeconomics, and governance) provide a practical way<br />

to integrate marine science, ocean management, and <strong>the</strong> improvement of<br />

economic conditions at <strong>the</strong> ecosystem scale in each of <strong>the</strong> world's 64 <strong>Large</strong><br />

<strong>Marine</strong> <strong>Ecosystems</strong> (LMEs) (Figure 1).<br />
