1 According to NRC (1988) recommendations
Dry matter in feeds and faeces was determined in a forced oven at 60 o C, where ash and N
analyses were conducted according to AOAC recommendations. The calorific value of the
samples was estimated in an adiabatic bomb calorimeter. The organic matter content of
feed and faeces was estimated to be the difference between 100 and the percent of ash
content.
Digestibility indices were calculated by the indirect method as suggested by Van Keulen
and Young (1977), following treatment of incinerated samples with hydrochloric acid.
The data were subjected to analysis of variance according to a one way classification
(Steel and Torrie 1980). The software of Harvey (1990) was used for the statistical
manipulation of data.
