ABSTRACT
Scientific studies devoted to research about small businesses have won an
unquestionable agenda of topics of interest both for academics and also for the
entrepreneurial environment. Researches devoted to entrepreneurial attitudes and
behavior present challenges due to the specificity and subjectivity that involves the
social actor in the business context. Besides that, the entrepreneurial culture as one
which encourages and supports the continuous search for entrepreneurial
opportunities and which can be explored with sustainable competitive advantages is
still incipient when integrated to the entrepreneurial attitudes and behavior.
Therefore, this research aims at analyzing whether the internal organizational factors
of small businesses encourage entrepreneurial behavior from managers and staff in
order to develop an intrapreneurial culture. This is a descriptive research which uses
the quantitative method. Two tools have been used to compose the questionnaire,
being Hartman (2006) used for assessing the intrapreneurial culture and the
Corporate Entrepreneurship Assessment Instrument (CEAI), by Kuratko and others
(2002) having resulted in six factors and 57 assertives coupled in a five-point Likert-
type scale. The collected data have been analyzed by means of descriptive and
multivariate statistics, making use of the SPSS software, as well as Cronbach’s Alpha
and Factorial and Correlational Analysis. The sample consists of managers and staff
of small businesses located in the state of São Paulo, Brazil, making a total of 317
assessed questionnaires. The results show that businesses with relevant internal
organizational factors stimulate entrepreneurial attitudes and behavior encouraging
the development of an intrapreneurial culture.
Keywords: entrepreneurial culture, intrapreneur, small businesses, attitudes,
behavior.
