EDITOR’S NOTEThe third volume of Romanian Traces Abroad encloses notes that referto 18 states, from India to Holland, three of which occupy a larger space:Israel, Great Britain, and particularly Italy. The same as in the previousvolumes of the New Series, the present text comprises the notes thatwere included in volumes I and II of the first edition (Ed. Enciclopedică,Bucharest, 1991 and 1998) and the additions and corrections of volume II.With the chapter on Holland in the present volume, the re-editing of thematerial that Virgil Cândea published in the first edition comes to an end.Volume IV, planned for release in 2012, and the following volumes willpresent the unpublished notes that were preserved in his archive.Most of the new bibliographical sources that the project team and thefurther-mentioned partners of the Institute of South-East European Studiessurveyed are mentioned in full, in the relevant notes. A few were recordedin the list of Abbreviations, while sources cited in volumes I and II, nolonger used in the present one, were left aside.Besides revising the entire volume III, Professor Andrei Pippidicontributed a large number of new notes, especially to the chapters Italyand Great Britain, where Romanian cultural items were often described byhim for the first time.Andrei Timotin added to the chapter on Italy the notes that he collectedhimself while on recent research trips, as well as bibliographical dataextracted from several editions of documents and commentaries. Forthe chapter on Macedonia, he enriched and revised the information onRomanian institutions. He also brought the data on Romanian churches upto date, and corrected the transcript of Greek titles.Daniel Cain added information regarding Macedonia after travelling inthe region of Bitola, he revised the data on Montenegro, and contributed tothe overall revision of the volume.The review and completion of data concerning Arab countries comprisedin this volume, and several other states where I had the opportunity to travel,always looking for Romanian traces, are due to the author of these lines
