TRAVELLIVE 07-2016

My grandfather often took me to school in the mornings when I was a little girl. We usually left earlier and stopped by a bakery near my school. He ordered cakes and milk for me while choosing a cup of black coffee with filter for him. When eating my food, I loved counting the drops of coffee falling down through the filter, wondering how they tasted. Once, when my grandfather was buying a magazine, I surreptitiously dipped a finger in the cup of coffee. Bitter! It was the first time I tasted it and couldn’t understand why the drink that many adults love was so bitter. That time I felt like I would never like coffee.

CREATIVE eye-catching dim sum varieties
make this Chinese meal more special than
just something to eat. Dim sum is a Chinese
culinary style of preparing bite-sized portions
of food. There are more than a hundred
dim sum varieties made from familiar Asian
ingredients such as rice flour, wheat flour, meat, and vegetables. Skillful
chefs arrange the dim sum into sophisticated shapes inspired by animals.
They can be three-tail goldfish, fat white urchins, or mischievous crabs
on small plates. Each portion is a fascinating dining experience as its
taste also varies from salty to sweet and their
textures from soft to crispy. Fans of Dim sum
have an array of creative varieties to explore.
Steamed dim sum stuffed with prawns and
pork is best for a simple breakfast while
greasy golden dumplings with a touch of egg
and milk will satisfy your sweet tooth. No matter what you choose,
be it a red orange translucent three-tail goldfish or a chubby urchin
sleeping in a small steamer basket, their lovely shape will always make
you pause before eating.
