Resumo
Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY) é
um tipo de Diabetes Mellitus (DM) ainda pouco
conhecido e extremamente subdiagnosticado.
É uma doença de caráter genético autossômica
dominante, tendo como características
alterações em 14 genes já conhecidos. Acomete
cerca de 5% da população com DM, sendo as
alterações mais comuns as mutações nos genes
da Glicoquinase (GCK) resultando na MODY 2 e
no gene fator nuclear hepatócito 1 alfa (HNF1α)
resultando na MODY 3. O diagnóstico do DM
tipo MODY é realizado através de teste genéticos
ainda pouco utilizados no Brasil devido ao seu
alto custo. Reforçar a grande importância na
realização de exames genéticos poderiam auxiliar
em diagnósticos precisos evitando equívocos
frequentes e tratamentos incorretos. O objetivo
deste estudo foi reunir as informações existentes
sobre o DM tipo MODY 2 e 3 buscando evidenciar
suas particularidades, prevalência e importância
clínica através de uma revisão da literatura nas
plataformas Scielo e PubMed.

Abstract
Maturity Onset Diabetes of the Young (MODY)
is a type of Diabetes Mellitus (DM) not known
and extremely underdiagnosed. It is a genetic
disease autosomal dominant, having changes
features in 14 genes already known. That
happened with approximately 5% of the
population with DM, being common mutations
in the genes of Glycokinase (GCK) resulting
in MODY 2 and the gene hepatocyte nuclear
factor 1 alpha (HNF1α) resulting MODY 3. The
DM diagnosis type MODY it’s due to genetic
testing not so well known in Brazil because of
the high cost. Reinforcing the importance of
genetic testing could help in accurate diagnosis
avoiding frequent misconceptions and incorrect
treatments. This study aimed to gather the
existing information on DM type 2 and 3 seeking
to highlight its particularities, prevalence and
clinical importance through a literature review
on the Scielo and PubMed platforms.
