About Bauhaus Luftfahrt
Das Bauhaus Luftfahrt ist eine interdisziplinäre Forschungseinrichtung,
getragen von den vier Luft- und Raumfahrtunternehmen Airbus
Group, Industrieanlagen-Betriebsgesellschaft (IABG), Liebherr-
Aerospace und MTU Aero Engines sowie einer Förderung durch
das Bayerische Staatsministerium für Wirtschaft und Medien,
Energie und Technologie. Der gemeinnützige Verein ist eine international
ausgerichtete Ideenschmiede, die sich mit ihrem Team aus
rund 50 Mitarbeitern mit der Zukunft der Mobilität im Allgemeinen
und mit der Zukunft des Luftverkehrs im Besonderen befasst. Ziel
der Forschungsarbeit ist es, das komplexe System der Luftfahrt aus
vielerlei Blickwinkeln zu betrachten: Bei allen Projekten werden
technische, wirtschaftliche, gesellschaftliche und ökologische Aspekte
ganzheitlich berücksichtigt.
In Anlehnung an die Tradition des „Bauhaus“, Deutschlands
historischer Hochschule für Gestaltung, versteht sich auch das
Bauhaus Luftfahrt als fachübergreifender „Think Tank“. Im Dessau
der 1920er-Jahre wirkten unter der Leitung von Walter Gropius Architekten,
Maler und Bildhauer eng zusammen. Auf diese Weise
ent stand ein breit gefächertes Kompetenzspektrum. Genau das
realisiert das Bauhaus Luftfahrt für die europäische Luftfahrtbranche,
und zwar nicht nur im interdisziplinären Dialog von Ingenieuren,
Ökonomen, Informatikern, Physikern, Chemikern, Geographen,
Kultur- und Sozialwissenschaftlern, sondern auch in enger Kooperation
mit Industrie, Wissenschaft und Politik.
Das Bauhaus Luftfahrt arbeitet unabhängig und im öffentlichen
Interesse. Innovative Ideen müssen dort nicht per se marktorientiert
reifen. Vielmehr gibt das Bauhaus Luftfahrt Antworten
auf die Frage, welche Alternativen für die Anforderungen der Zukunft
denkbar sind. Dabei bestehen für die Wissenschaftler des
Kre ativzentrums kaum gedankliche Tabus. Allerdings wird streng
darauf ge achtet, dass visionäre Konzepte und Strategien stets
auch anwendungsorientiert und technisch machbar sind. Grundlage
zur Entwicklung tragfähiger Lösungen bilden somit immer die
klassischen Disziplinen der Physik und der Ingenieurwissenschaft.
Bauhaus Luftfahrt is an interdisciplinary research institution funded
by the four aerospace companies Airbus Group, Industrieanlagen-
Betriebsgesellschaft (IABG), Liebherr-Aerospace and MTU Aero
Engines as well as through grants from the Bavarian Ministry for
Economic Affairs, Media, Energy and Technology. The non-profit
association is an internationally oriented think tank. Its team of
around 50 employees deals with the future of mobility in general
and with the future of air travel in particular. The goal of the research
work is to consider the complex system of aviation from
different points of view. In every project, the technical, economic,
social and ecological aspects are considered holistically.
In keeping with the “Bauhaus” tradition, Germany’s once renowned
School of Design, Bauhaus Luftfahrt has set out to be a
multi disciplinary think tank. In Dessau in the 1920s, architects,
painters and sculptors worked closely together under the direction
of Walter Gropius, leading to the emergence of a widely diversified
spectrum of expertise. This is exactly what Bauhaus Luftfahrt is
achieving within the European aviation industry – not only in the
interdiscip linary dialogue between engineers, economists, computer
scientists, physicists, chemists, geographers, cultural experts
and social scientists, but also in close cooperation with industry,
science and politics.
The registered association works independently and in the
interest of the public. Here, innovative ideas do not need to be
developed to commercial maturity. Rather, Bauhaus Luftfahrt provides
answers to the question of which alternatives could conceivably
meet tomorrow’s requirements. Scientists at the creative centre
are virtually unconstrained by notional taboos. However, strict
attention is paid to the fact that visionary concepts and strategies
are also always application-oriented and technically feasible. Thus,
the traditional disciplines of physics and engineering science inevitably
create the foundation for the development of sustainable
solutions.
