The UNECE Convention on the Protection and Use
of Transboundary Watercourses and International
Lakes (Water Convention) aims to protect and ensure
the quantity, quality and sustainable use of transboundary
water resources by facilitating cooperation. It provides
an intergovernmental platform for the day-to-day development
and advancement of transboundary cooperation.
Initially negotiated as a regional instrument, it turned into
a universally available legal framework for transboundary
water cooperation.

The United Nations Collaborative Programme on
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest
Degradation in Developing Countries (UN-REDD Programme)
is the United Nations collaborative initiative on
Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation
(REDD+) in developing countries. The Programme
was launched in 2008 and builds on the convening power
and expertise of the Food and Agriculture Organization of
the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development
Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment
Programme (UNEP).

The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe
(UNECE) was set up in 1947 by ECOSOC. It is one
of five regional commissions of the United Nations. Its
major aim is to promote pan-European economic integration.
UNECE includes 56 member States in Europe, North
America and Asia. However, all interested United Nations
member States may participate in the work of UNECE.
Over 70 international professional organizations and other
non-governmental organizations take part in UNECE activities.

The International Strategy for Disaster Reduction is a
strategic framework, adopted by United Nations Member
States in 2000, that guides and coordinates the efforts
of a wide range of partners to achieve substantive
reduction in disaster losses and build resilient nations and
communities as an essential condition for sustainable development.
UNISDR, the UN Office for Disaster Risk
Reduction, is the secretariat of the International Strategy
for Disaster Reduction.
