Anspruch an Engagement und Selbständigkeit
beständig an der Synthese von gestalterischer
Kompetenz, Medienkompetenz, Theoriekompe-
tenz und – nicht zuletzt – sozialer Kompetenz
mitwirken.
Die HfG hat die Aufbaujahre erfolgreich ge-
nutzt, sich zu einer etablierten und anerkann-
ten Kunsthochschule zu entwickeln, die ihre
Aufgaben hervorragend erfüllt. Die Absolven-
ten werden wegen ihrer vielseitigen und selbst-
ständigen Einsetzbarkeit auf dem deutschen
Arbeitsmarkt und darüber hinaus stark nach-
gefragt.
stimmigen Personalauswahl.
theoretischen Arbeit in künstlerischer Ent-
wicklung, Forschung und Lehre, dies zudem
in enger Zusammenarbeit mit dem ZKM (dabei
selbstverständliche und umfassende Einbezie-
hung neuer technischer Medien, gegenseitige
Förderung von Lehre und Forschung),
— Grundsatz der Projektarbeit als hauptsäch-
liche Lehr - und Lernform,
— Grundsatz der Befristung der Professuren
der Praxisfächer zum Erhalt der Innovations-
fähigkeit.
The Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design has successfully utilized its initial years to develop
into a well-established and renowned university of arts that excellently fulfills its tasks and re-
sponsibilities. Since its graduates are versatile and used to working on their own, they are in
high demand in the German labor market and beyond. Their courses of study focus on project
work. This usually allows them to establish a number of different contacts outside of the univer-
sity early on, and to ease them into their careers often before they even graduate. This success
is partly attributable to the thus far extraordinarily diligent and consistent selection of staff;
and yet it also stems from the three main formative aspects of the HfG’s conception. Even the
university’s very founding concept declares these to be uniquely distinguishing features; and
since then, the HfG has consistently realized them:
– Principle of strong interdisciplinary connection or interfusion of artistic, design, and theoreti-
cal work in artistic development, research, and teaching. Moreover, this is conducted in close
cooperation with the ZKM [Center for Art and Media Technology Karlsruhe] (including natural
and comprehensive incorporation of new technical media, mutual promotion of teaching and re-
search);
– Principle of project work as the main form of teaching and learning;
– Principle of limited tenure for professors in the practical subjects, so as to be able to maintain
the capacity for innovation
