Qui vive?, I. Moscow International
Biennale for Young Art, M‘ARS Centre
for Contemporary Art, Moskau,
01.07. — 31.07.2008
men des M‘ARS Centre for Contemporary Art
statt, einer Institution, die sich für die Förde-
rung junger russischer Kunst einsetzt.
Unter dem Titel »VIDEONURSERY: EAST &
WEST« präsentierte die Kuratorin der Ausstel-
lung, Irina Yashkova, die Arbeiten der HfG -
Studierenden gemeinsam mit Werken von
Hochschulen aus der Schweiz und Frankreich,
die unter Betreuung der »Blue Noses Group«
aus Russland entstanden sind. Der leichte und
performative Stil der »Blue Noses« stand den
konzeptuellen Arbeiten der Klasse von Prof.
Anna Jermolaewa gegenüber.
Das Ausstellungskonzept wurde direkt vor Ort
von Studierenden der HfG entwickelt, die auch
den gesamten Aufbau in Eigenregie übernah-
men. So wurden in drei großzügigen Galerie-
räumen aktuelle Produktionen folgender Stu-
dierender gezeigt:
Grazyna Roguski hat in »After« Nachrichten-
sprecher in ihren Sprechpausen im Visier, der
kurze Moment bis zum nächsten Schnitt stoppt
die Ereignisse des Tages für einen Moment. Ki-
lian Kretschmer präsentiert in »Globe« seinen
eigenen Blick auf den Erdball, während Lukas
Kindermann die Erde in Form einer menschli-
chen Rakete »FI 521« verlässt. In »Focus« filmt
Oliver Hermann Personen, die etwas betrach-
ten, was verborgen bleibt. Das Video von Car-
men Donet, »Naschen«, hebt den Akt der indi-
viduellen Nahrungsaufnahme hervor. Jan Schu-
mann zeigt in »Rabbit« mechanische Aufzieh-
spielzeuge in Fußgängerzonen. Die isländische
Landschaft dient Katrin Agnes Klar als Hinter-
grund ihrer Arbeit »after Hein Fridolfsson«,
sche Partner.
Qui vive?, I. Moscow International Biennale for Young Art, M‘ARS Centre for Contempo-
rary Art, Moscow, 1–31 July 2008
At the end of the summer term 2008, a number of students were invited to present their video
projects at the first Moscow International Biannual Film Festival for Young Art. The exhibition
took place at the M‘ARS Centre for Contemporary Art in Moscow, an institution dedicated to pro-
moting young Russian art.
Under the title “VIDEONURSERY: EAST & WEST” Irina Yashkova, curator of the exhibition, pre-
sented the works of the HfG students together with pieces from universities in Switzerland and
France, which were created under supervision of the “Blue Noses Group” from Russia. The light
and performative style of the “Blue Noses” contrasted with the conceptual works of the Prof. Anna
Jermolaewa’s class.
Students of the HfG, who were also solely responsible for the entire set-up, designed the exhibi-
tion concept directly on site. Current productions of the following students were featured in three
spacious gallery rooms:
In “After”, Grazyna Roguski trains her sights on news reporters’ pauses - that is, the short moment
until the next cut that halts the events of the day for a moment. In “Globe”, Kilian Kretschmer
presents his views of the globe, while Lukas Kindermann leaves Earth in form of a human rocket,
“FI 521”. In “Focus”, Oliver Hermann films people observing something that remains hidden. The
video “Naschen” [Nibbling], by Carmen Donet, highlights the act of individual ingestion. Jan
Schumann in “Rabbit” shows mechanical winder toys in pedestrian zones. Iceland’s landscape
serves as a backdrop for Katrin Agnes Klar’s work, “After Hein Fridolfsson”, which explores pro-
jection and reflection.
During the opening of the exhibition on 3 July 2008, Kilian Kretschmer and Thorsten Schwan-
ninger performed “SCOMP – Sound Controlled Motion Picture”, which met with great interest in
the audience, leading to discussions and an exchange of views and opinions.
“QUI VIVE?”, the first Biannual Film Festival for Young Art in Moscow, is considered one of the
greatest and most ambitious projects in the field of contemporary art. It brings together creative
initiatives from all over Russia and Moscow’s leading cultural centers, as well as regional part-
ners and partners from abroad.
