Ausstellungspraxis entsteht aus einer Verschränkung
künstlerischer, kuratorischer und
architektonischer Entscheidungen, die zu konkreten
Ausführungen im Raum führen. Das zugleich
modellhafte und situative Handeln bei
der Konzeption und Realisierung von Ausstellungsprojekten
bildet den Mittelpunkt der
transdisziplinären Seminararbeit. Im Projektseminar
werden konkrete Ausstellungsräume
entworfen und umgesetzt: im Studienjahr 2007
die Ausstellung »CANDIDA HÖFER – Werkgruppen
seit 1968« im Museum für neue Kunst
Karlsruhe und die Ausstellung »Fernsehtürme«
unter der kuratorische Leitung von Raumtaktik
Berlin, welche 2009 im DAM Frankfurt realisiert
wird. Gleichzeitig wird eine theoretische
Vertiefung in Form einer kritischen Aktualisierung
der Ausstellungsgeschichte im
Hinblick auf das jeweilige Seminarthema geleistet;
daraus entsteht die Lehrstuhlpublikation
DISPLAYER, deren zweite Ausgabe im Studienjahr
2007 erarbeitet wurde.
candida HÖfer – Werkgruppen seit 1968
Beginnend mit den Liverpool-Aufnahmen, umfasst
die Ausstellung im MNK/ZKM vier Jahrzehnte
des Schaffens von Candida Höfer und
zeigt Arbeiten aus den Zyklen »Türken in
Deutschland«, »Zoologische Gärten«, die Diaprojektion
»80 Pictures« sowie eine Auswahl
von Aufnahmen öffentlicher Innenräume. Inhaltlich
folgt die Werkauswahl weniger einer
Klassifizierung nach Orten oder Jahren, sondern
fokussiert auf Kriterien wie Perspektive,
Farbe, Licht oder Blickführung. Auf dieser
Grundlage stellt die Auswahl einen Index ihres
fotografischen Werks dar.
fernSeHtÜrme — 7893 Meter Politik und
Architektur
Die Ausstellung stellt die Frage nach politischen,
gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Einflüssen
der Architektur anhand der Geschichte
von Fernsehtürmen aus der ganzen Welt.
Fernsehtürme sind symbolisch aufgeladene
Bauwerke, die oft in Umbruchzeiten als Sinnbilder
gesellschaftlichen Wandels erbaut wurden
und die technische, ökonomische und ästhetische
Leistungsfähigkeit ihrer Erbauer repräsentieren.
Im Seminar wurden konkrete
Ausstellungskonzepte entwickelt, die durch
Studierende der HfG bis zur Realisierung der
Ausstellung betreut und umgesetzt werden.
diSplayer 02
Die Publikationsreihe DISPLAYER ist Recherchewerkzeug
und zugleich Bestandsaufnahme
zu Themen der Ausstellungspraxis. Auf Grundlage
unterschiedlicher O-Ton-Formate wie Vortrag,
Telefonat, Gespräch oder Interview, Rundgang,
Chat und E-Mail-Austausch setzt die Publikation
eine im Seminar editierte Text- und
Bildsammlung zu Strategien des Ausstellens im
Raum fort. DISPLAYER 02 untersucht in elf
Kapiteln unterschiedliche Sammlungsstrategien
in Verbindung mit deren Präsentationskonzepten.
Ausgangspunkte der Befragungen sind
private und institutionelle Kunstsammlungen
wie auch künstlerische Praktiken.

Exhibition design consists of the interconnection of artistic, curatorial, and architectural decisions
that lead to concrete realizations in space. Our trans-disciplinary seminar work focuses both on
the model and situative actions when designing and implementing exhibition projects. In the
project seminar, we design and realize specific exhibition spaces. In the academic year 2007, these
were the exhibitions “Candida Höfer – Work Groups since 1968” at the Karlsruhe Museum of Contemporary
Art and “Television Towers” under the curatorial supervision of Raumtaktik Berlin,
which will be realized at the DAM Frankfurt in 2009. At the same time, theoretical focus is consolidated
in the form of a critical update on exhibition history respective to the seminar topics. This
will result in the department publication DISPLAYER, whose 2nd issue was developed in 2007.
candida HÖfer – Workgroups since 1968
Beginning with “the Liverpool photos”, the exhibition at the MNK / ZKM covers four decades of
Candida Höfer’s creations and displays works from the series “Turks in Germany”, “Zoological
Gardens”, and the slide projection “80 pictures”, as well as a selection of photographs of public
interiors. In terms of content, the selection of works is based on criteria such as perspective,
color, light, and focus, rather than being classified according to location or date. On this basis,
the selection presents an index of Höfer’s photographic works.
teleViSion toWerS [Fernsehtürme] – 7893 Meters of Architecture and Politics
This exhibition poses the question of political, societal, and cultural impact of architecture by
looking at the history of TV towers from all over the world. Television towers are symbolically
loaded buildings that have often been constructed as symbols of societal change during periods
of upheaval, and which represent the technical, economic, and aesthetic capacity of their architects.
In our seminar, we developed concrete exhibition concepts that will be supervised and implemented
by students of the HfG up to the realization of the exhibition.
diSplayer 02
The publication series DISPLAYER is simultaneously a research tool and a way of taking stock of
issues in exhibition design. Based on various original-voice formats like lectures, telephone calls,
discussions and interviews, tours, chat, and e-mail correspondence, this publication expands on a
collection of texts and images on spatial exhibition strategies edited in the seminar. In eleven
chapters, DISPLAYER 02 analyzes different collection strategies in connection with their presentation
concepts. Starting points for the interviews were private and institutional art collections,
as well as artistic methods and practices.
