Panoramische Projektionen und Raumklangsysteme
bilden die Entwicklungsschwerpunkte
der Arbeit des Institutes für Bildmedien und
des Institutes für Musik und Akustik am ZKM.
Die dort entwickelten Instrumente zur Präsentation
und Realisation solcher räumlichen Bildund
Klangdarstellungen wurden in den künstlerischen
Seminaren der Leiter der beiden Institute
eingesetzt.
Ludger Brümmer und Bernd Lintermann arbeiteten
gemeinsam mit den Studierenden an
einem Projekt, das direkt aus der Forschungsarbeit
beider Institute entstammt: dem 360
Grad Panorama Screen und dem Klangdom mit
Raumklangsteuerung. Innerhalb dieser Environments
wurden die Studierenden angehalten,
Werke zu entwickeln, die die dramaturgisch-technischen
Spezifika der Rezeption in
solchen Rundumprojektionen ausloten. Ziel
war es, eigene Vorstellungen zur Nutzung von
Raum zu entwickeln und in einem konkreten
Projekt zu realisieren.
Im Rahmen des vergangenen Seminars wurden
mehrere panoramische Projekte realisiert
und einem interessierten Publikum vorgeführt.
Erstaunlich waren die breit gefächerten Ansätze
der Studierenden in denen jeweils unterschiedliche
Gewichtungen von Klang und Bild
thematisiert wurden. Die Arbeiten entstanden
in Einzel- oder Teamarbeit. Aus seiner Seminararbeit
heraus entwickelte Matthias Fritsch
das Panoramaprojekt »Parallaxe«, das im Oktober
im Rahmen des eArts-Festivals in Shanghai
zu sehen sein wird.
Ludger Brümmer (geb. 1958) studierte Komposition
bei Nicolaus A. Huber und Dirk Reith an
der Folkwang Hochschule Essen. Er komponierte
Musik für das Nederlands Dans Theater,
Den Haag mit Susanne Linke, und mit dem Installationskünstler
und Architekten Christian
Moeller für Ausstellungen in Tokio, Lissabon
und im Science Museum London.
Von 1991 bis 1993 war er DAAD-Stipendiat am
Center for Computer Research in Music and
Accoustics, an der Stanford University Kalifornien.
Er arbeitete am ZKM und lehrte am Institut
für Computermusik und elektronische Medien
der Folkwang Hochschule Essen. Von 2000
war er als Research Fellow an der Kingston
University London und von April 2002 Professor
für Komposition am Sonic Art Research
Centre in Belfast. Seit April 2003 leitet er das
Institut für Musik und Akustik am ZKM. Mit
prominenten Präsentationen in Japan, Athen,
Montreal, am GRM in Paris, bei den Inventionen
in Berlin und beim Ars Electronica Festival
in Linz setzte Brümmer 2006 als Komponist
international Akzente im Bereich von Computermusik
und Video.
Er erhielt den Folkwangpreis, den WDR Preis,
den Busoni-Preis, die Goldene Nica der Ars
Electronica vom ORF, dessen Jurymitglied er
1995/96 war, einen Preis beim Luigi Russolo-
Wettbewerb, eine Lobende Erwähnung beim
Stockholm Award 1995, den Grand Prix de
Bourges 1997 sowie 2001 und gewann den ersten
Preis beim Rostrum der UNESCO für elektronische
Musik. Er wurde nominiert für den

Panoramic projections and surround sound systems constitute the main focus of development
of the work of the Institute for Visual Media and the Institute for Music and Acoustics at the
ZKM. The directors of both institutes use the instruments designed at their institutes to present
and realize depictions of space-sound movements in their creative seminars.
Ludger Brümmer and Bernd Lintermann, together with their students, worked on a project that
had directly originated from the research work of both institutes: the 360-degree panorama screen
and the sound dome with surround sound control. Within these environments, the students
were to develop works that explore the dramaturgical-technical specifications of reception in
such 360-degree surround projects. The objective was to develop unique ideas as to the use of
space and to realize them in a specific project.
The students of the past seminar implemented several panoramic projects, which were presented
to an interested public. The broad range of approaches pursued by students in placing different
degrees of emphasis on sound and image was amazing. They worked on their projects individually
or in teams. Based on a seminar paper, Matthias Fritsch developed the panorama project
“Parallaxe”, which will be shown at the eArts-Festival in Shanghai in October.
Ludger Brümmer (born in 1958) studied composition with Nicolaus A. Huber and Dirk Reith at
the Folkwang University Essen. Together with Susanne Linke, he composed music for the Nederlands
Dans Theater/Den Haag and with the installation artist and architect Christian Moeller, he
composed music for exhibitions in Tokyo, Lisbon and at the London Science Museum.
From 1991 to 1993, he had a DAAD research grant to work at the Center for Computer Research
in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University in California. He worked at the ZKM and taught
at the Institute for Computer Music and Electronic Media at the Folkwang University Essen. By
2000, he was a research fellow at Kingston University in London and in April 2002 had a chair
in composition at the Sonic Art Research Centre in Belfast. Since April 2003, he has headed the
Institute for Music and Acoustics at the ZKM. With highly acclaimed presentations in Japan,
Athens, Montreal, at the GRM in Paris, at the Inventionen in Berlin, and the Ars Electronica Festival
in Linz, Brümmer has, as a composer, set new international trends in the fields of computer
music and video.
He has been presented with the Folkwang Prize, the WDR Prize, the Busoni Award, the Golden
Nica of the Ars Electronica (where he was a member of the jury in 1995/96), awarded by the ORF,
an award at the Luigi Russolo contest, an Honorary Nomination at the Stockholm Award 1995,
and the Grand Prix de Bourges 1997 and 2001. He also won First Prize at the UNESCO Rostrum
for Electronic Music and was nominated for the International Video Art Prize of Südwestfunk
and the ZKM, as well as awarded Second Prize at the Prix Ars Electronica in 1998.
