by Faserplast.
sten Bestandteil des Lehrangebots zählen, be-
beim erstmals ausgelobten »Prix Emile Her-
mès – Le Sens de l‘Objet« aufgrund seines Re-
nommés und der Preissumme mit Sicherheit
eine Sonderstellung zukommt. Erstmals konn-
ten, finanziert aus Landesmitteln des Pro-
gramms »Junge Innovatoren«, zwei ehemalige
terzuentwickeln. Dasselbe Projektteam aus
Michael Haas und Martin Fussenegger, kann
sich ausserdem über den ihm vom Bundeswirt-
schaftsministerium zuerkannten Gründerpreis
der Deutschen Wirtschaft freuen.
Und während bereits wieder ein Diplomand
eine Einzelpräsentation auf der Kölner Möbel-
messe vorbereitet, laufen parallel die Vorbe-
reitungen für ein neues Instrument der Förde-
rung unserer Absolventen und ihrer Bindung
an Karlsruhe: Das Ziel heisst Milano.
Die Resonanz der Arbeit des Fachbereichs in
der Presse** rundet diese Erfolgsbilanz ab.
Our participation in the IMM International Furnishing Show in Cologne was, for the Department
of Product Design, one of the most significant events of the past academic year.
A well-rounded presentation and communications concept (for which the IMM dignified the
project team with an award) was implemented to show the part-applied and part-experimental
porcelain and furniture designs. They originated from a very productive cooperation with the
Project Professor of the year 2007, Stefan Diez.
Not only did this display attract a lot of media interest in the HfG, but the designers of the projects
also found industrial partners to collaborate in their further development. These partners in-
cluded new companies in addition to Rosenthal and Nanoo by Faserplast, who had already been
participating.
A noticeable increase in the professionalism with which the students handle the instruments of
public relations work is by and large a characteristic of the department, and will be acknowledged
here in this annual report. Not only group projects like the one described above – which will
continue to appear at fairs in Cologne and Frankfurt – but also a number of high-quality individ-
ual presentations (in the form of thesis or pre-graduation projects) for these events demonstrate
the students’ growing self-confidence, students who can also make use of the possibilities and
support offered to them by the university.
The fact that cooperation with business and industry continues to play such a major role in the
curriculum shows that the HfG has carved its own profile in the German university landscape,
and has established a certain competence for thinking unconventionally, both of which are skills
explicitly demanded by companies.
We were also able to celebrate a series of successes at international competitions, among which
Bastian Goecke’s success at the Prix Emile Hermès – Le Sens de’l Objet stands out, due to the
high acclaim and prize money in this first-time-ever contest. Also for the first time, and financed
by the German State of Baden-Württemberg, two alumni could be connected with the HfG, and
were contracted to continue the development of their project idea, created at the HfG, into a mar-
ketable commodity. In addition, the very same project team of Michael Haas and Martin Fusseneg-
ger was awarded the Gründerpreis der Deutschen Wirtschaft [German Founders Award for Out-
standing Entrepreneurs] by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
And while another senior student is already working on her degree project and individual pres-
entation for the International Furnishing Show in Cologne, preparations are under way for a new
funding instrument in sponsoring our graduates and their bond to Karlsruhe: Our goal is Milan.
The positive press response** to the work of the department completes this string of successes.
