ANIMATIONSINSTITUT 20 YEARS – 20 PROJECTS<br />
ANNA HENCKEL-DONNERSMARCK was born in<br />
Frankfurt am Main in 1973 and grew up in Indonesia,<br />
Japan, England and Bavaria. She studied at Camberwell<br />
College of Art and Design in London and received<br />
her degree from <strong>Filmakademie</strong> <strong>Baden</strong>-Wuerttemberg in<br />
2001, focusing on animation and documentary filmmaking.<br />
Anna works with the moving image in various ways. She<br />
creates video projections for theatre, opera, dance and<br />
music concerts as well as video installations for exhibitions<br />
and museums. She has been commissioned by<br />
institutions such as the Bauhaus Archive Berlin, Kunsthalle<br />
Karlsruhe, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Hygiene<br />
Museum Dresden, Grimmwelt Kassel, Humboldt Lab<br />
Berlin, ECLAT Festival für Neue Musik, Strenesse, Hessnatur,<br />
Schauspiel Köln, Oper Frankfurt, Staatsoper Berlin,<br />
Komische Oper Berlin and Opernhaus Zürich.<br />
She has collaborated with Constanza Macras/DorkyPark,<br />
Mathilde Monnier, Dissidenten, The Wooster Group<br />
NYC, Laurent Chetouane, Cordula Däuper, Clemens<br />
Gadenstätter, Ensemble Modern, Invisible Playground,<br />
The Berlin Philharmoniker and many others.<br />
For 20 years, Anna has been active as a programmer<br />
(Filmwinter Stuttgart, Kasseler Dokfest, Zebra Poetry<br />
Film Festival, etc.), moderator (Pictoplasma, Stuttgart<br />
International Festival of Animated Film, Buchmesse<br />
Frankfurt, etc.), jury member (Szpilman Award, Milano<br />
Film Festival, Regard Quebec, Tel Aviv Int. Student Film<br />
Festival, Vienna Shorts, Tehran Int. Short Film Festival,<br />
etc.) and panel participant (Fajr Film Festival Tehran,<br />
Curtas Vila do Conde, UCLA, etc.). From 2007 to 2018,<br />
she served as a member of the selection committee for<br />
Berlinale Shorts.<br />
Since 2019 she is the head of Berlinale Shorts, the international<br />
competition for short films at the Berlin International<br />
Film Festival. She teaches film theory and video<br />
practice at various art schools.<br />
