ANIMATIONSINSTITUT 20 YEARS – 20 PROJECTS ANNA HENCKEL-DONNERSMARCK was born in Frankfurt am Main in 1973 and grew up in Indonesia, Japan, England and Bavaria. She studied at Camberwell College of Art and Design in London and received her degree from <strong>Filmakademie</strong> <strong>Baden</strong>-Wuerttemberg in 2001, focusing on animation and documentary filmmaking. Anna works with the moving image in various ways. She creates video projections for theatre, opera, dance and music concerts as well as video installations for exhibitions and museums. She has been commissioned by institutions such as the Bauhaus Archive Berlin, Kunsthalle Karlsruhe, Deichtorhallen Hamburg, Hygiene Museum Dresden, Grimmwelt Kassel, Humboldt Lab Berlin, ECLAT Festival für Neue Musik, Strenesse, Hessnatur, Schauspiel Köln, Oper Frankfurt, Staatsoper Berlin, Komische Oper Berlin and Opernhaus Zürich. She has collaborated with Constanza Macras/DorkyPark, Mathilde Monnier, Dissidenten, The Wooster Group NYC, Laurent Chetouane, Cordula Däuper, Clemens Gadenstätter, Ensemble Modern, Invisible Playground, The Berlin Philharmoniker and many others. For 20 years, Anna has been active as a programmer (Filmwinter Stuttgart, Kasseler Dokfest, Zebra Poetry Film Festival, etc.), moderator (Pictoplasma, Stuttgart International Festival of Animated Film, Buchmesse Frankfurt, etc.), jury member (Szpilman Award, Milano Film Festival, Regard Quebec, Tel Aviv Int. Student Film Festival, Vienna Shorts, Tehran Int. Short Film Festival, etc.) and panel participant (Fajr Film Festival Tehran, Curtas Vila do Conde, UCLA, etc.). From 2007 to 2018, she served as a member of the selection committee for Berlinale Shorts. Since 2019 she is the head of Berlinale Shorts, the international competition for short films at the Berlin International Film Festival.
