When Bathurshan traveled back to Sri Lanka after successfully
completing the International Class in the spring
of 2021, he brought with him a trunk full of film equipment
such as cameras, tripods, and monitors which other
filmmakers from the region he is good friends with
had collected for him. It is these tools which serve as
the basic equipment of the film school in northern Sri
Lanka.
„We would love to win more international experts and
professionals to pass on their knowledge to us. Further,
we would need additional equipment, such as lighting
equipment and grip, to be able to offer more practical
workshops. Future perspectives for young people are
rather blurry in the crisis Sri Lanka is currently finding
itself in. Without electricity or gas, almost nothing
is working properly. While at the moment everything is
more about survival, I do hope that after overcoming the
crisis, we will be able to develop this small school into
an important film hub for our Tamil-speaking region,”
says Bathurshan.
