(typically offered by producers of heat pumps and/or solar collectors like Viessmann,<br />
Vaillant, Nibe, Bosch Thermotechnik, …)<br />

The features of this system are:<br />
� system components (solar collectors and heat pump) do not directly interact<br />
� control of both systems usually work separately, and it can become a commissioning<br />
issue to make it work with some synergy<br />
� use of solar energy is solely for the DHW production, so the size of the collector area<br />
is limited to somewhat 1 m2 per capita in house<br />
� decrease of the required average working temperature of the heat pump since it has<br />
less domestic hot water to prepare especially in summertimes<br />
� there is a solar contribution to the increase of the SPF of the heat pump<br />
� there is no active regeneration of the gro<strong>und</strong> heat source by the solar collectors, (some<br />
claim it is not necessary)<br />
� the heat extraction from gro<strong>und</strong> is reduced mainly during summer, due to the hot water<br />
production by solar. This can allow shorter boreholes if system is properly sized or<br />
give some safety in case of dry soils.
