with longer black hairs, as are <strong>the</strong> margins <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leaf; petiole<br />

3 inches wide, black, hairy. Panicle in fruit, terminal base<br />

with spreading branches, hairy, 8 inches long. Fruit pink,<br />

elongate urn-shaped, narrowed to <strong>the</strong> base, J inch long, on a<br />

pedicel as long, glabrous.<br />

Damp woods in <strong>the</strong> Gully and <strong>the</strong> first Padang stream<br />

In fruit only.<br />

Allied to 0. rosea, Ridl., <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tahan River and Trengganu,<br />

but differing in <strong>the</strong> rounded cordate peltate leaf-base and its<br />

hairiness.<br />

53. [Pachycentria speciosa, n. sp.<br />

Epiphytic shrub, strongly woody, with a stem over a foot<br />

tall, J inch through, bark grey, branched above, branches<br />

knotted. Leaves fleshy coriaceous, ovate-lanceolate, narrowed<br />

to an obtuse tip, base shortly narrowed, nerves 3, not very<br />

conspicuous except <strong>the</strong> midrid beneath, 2-3! inches long,<br />

I inch across, petiole f inch long; Flowers in umbelled red<br />

peduncle f inch long,<br />

viscid cymes, terminal on <strong>the</strong> branches ;<br />

cyme-peduncles | inch, pedicels 5 inch, each cyme <strong>of</strong> 3 flowers.<br />

Bracts minute, tooth-like. Calyx-tube dilate at base, over <strong>the</strong><br />

ovary subglobose, above a tube ending in a shortly 4-lobep<br />

limb, constricted below, ^ inch long, red, viscid. Petals 4,<br />

ovate, cuspidate, rose-pink, J inch long. Stamens 8, unequal, 4<br />

short, 4 ra<strong>the</strong>r longer, all similar in form ; filaments linear,<br />

long, flat; an<strong>the</strong>rs yellow, C3'lindric, acuminate-arcuate, base<br />

bifid with two short curved points, connective at <strong>the</strong> back <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> base, prolonged into a short linear process.<br />

Above Wray's Camp on a Livistona Tahanensis, Becc.<br />

This beautiful plant is distinct in possessing <strong>the</strong> largest and<br />

showiest flowers <strong>of</strong> any recorded species. The whole <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

inflorescence is very viscid and gummy, as is <strong>the</strong> case in o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

species <strong>of</strong> this genus.]<br />

54. SoNERiLA c^siA, Stapf. A large form in <strong>the</strong> Gully<br />

below <strong>the</strong> Padang.<br />

Distribution. Perak and Telom in Pahang.<br />

55. SONERILA TENUIFOLIA, Bl. antca, p. 46, In <strong>the</strong> Gully<br />

and damp spots along <strong>the</strong> first stream on <strong>the</strong> Padang beyond<br />

<strong>the</strong> waterfall.<br />

Distribution. Mountains <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Peninsula, Java, and<br />

Borneo.<br />

56. Phyllagathis hispida, King. In <strong>the</strong> Gully and <strong>the</strong><br />

Teku woods up to about 4,600 feet elevation. Common in<br />

<strong>the</strong> woods <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tahan River and in Perak.<br />
