LYCOPODIACE^.<br />

338. Lycopodium cernuum, L. a very curious, stiffly<br />

rigid form occurs on <strong>the</strong> dry parts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Padang.<br />

Common in <strong>the</strong> woods and occasionally creeping over rocks<br />

from 4,000 feet to 5,600.<br />

340. Lycopodium ceylanicum, Spring. On streambanks<br />

Stem ascending, 6 to 8 inches, nude, rough with persistent<br />

leaf-bases, pale yellow ; branches about 4 inches long,<br />

little-branched, suberect. Leaves <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> main stem oblonglanceolate,<br />

apex rounded, spaced, deciduous; <strong>of</strong> lower plane<br />

lanceolate to ovate-lanceolate, base broad, apex rounded,<br />

imbricate, texture firm, polished, dark green above, a little<br />

paler beneath, leaves <strong>of</strong> upper plane half as long, lanceolate,<br />

long-cuspidate, paler. Spikes |^ to i inch long, slender. *<br />

Bracts <strong>of</strong> lower plane triangular, acute, small, and pale ; <strong>of</strong> c<br />

upper plane subtriangular, quite obtuse, dark green. Sporangia<br />

large, globose.<br />

Woods by <strong>the</strong> Teku, Gunong Tahan.<br />

Nearest to S. suberosa, but smaller and denser, and littlebranched<br />

; leaves rigid, polished and not ciliate. The habit <strong>of</strong> v<br />

<strong>the</strong> plant is more that <strong>of</strong> S. trichobasis,<br />
