Bracts very small, lanceolate, scurfy brown ; pedicels jjj inch<br />
long; ovary obconic; petals o\'ate-obtuse, connate, as long as<br />
<strong>the</strong> ovary; sepals reduced to minute points. Stamens very<br />
short; filaments as long as <strong>the</strong> elliptic-ovate, obtuse, deeply<br />
grooved an<strong>the</strong>rs. Disc umbonate, rugose.<br />
On <strong>the</strong> Padang in small woods. Endemic.<br />
Most nearly allied to H. Hullettii, King, but a taller<br />
slenderer plant with smaller leaves.<br />
63. Heptapleukum coriifolium, Ridl. Common on<br />
<strong>the</strong> Padang. A fairly large erect shrub here, about 8 feet tall.<br />
On Gunong Berumbun in Perak, where <strong>the</strong> type was found, it<br />
was adwarf shrub only a couple <strong>of</strong> feet tall.<br />

CAPRIFOLIACE^.<br />
64. Viburnum longistamineum, n. sp.<br />
A shrub about 12 feet tall. Leaves opposite, elliptic-cuspidate,<br />
base cuneate, membranous, glabrous, with four pairs <strong>of</strong><br />
nerves, slender above, fairly stout, elevate beneath, 3J-4J<br />
inches long, 2 inches wide, petiole half an inch long, all<br />
glabrous except for a tuft <strong>of</strong> hairs in <strong>the</strong> nerve-axils. Corymb<br />
terminal on peduncle, 2 inches long; branches umbellate, f<br />
inch long, secondary branches \ inch long, umbellate, all subglabrous<br />
with a few white hairs. Bracts very sm^I, ovate.<br />
Flowers sessile, white ; calyx oblong, with 5 ver}- short lobes,<br />
ovate, margins ciliate. Corolla shortly campanulate, with 5<br />
ovate spreading lobes, white; whole flower \ inch long and as<br />
wide. Stamens 5 ; filaments four times as long as <strong>the</strong> corolla,<br />
spirally twisted, \ inch long, white ; an<strong>the</strong>rs elliptic, obtuse,<br />
dorsifixed. Pistil short conic, truncate, ribbed ; stigma small,<br />
conic.<br />
Woods by <strong>the</strong> streams on <strong>the</strong> Padang at 5,600 feet<br />
elevation.<br />
Allied to V. sanibucinum, BL, <strong>the</strong> common low-country<br />
species, but nearly glabrous, with a smaller corymb (2 inches<br />
across) and very long projecting stamens.<br />
RUBIACE^.<br />
65. Argostemma involucratum, Hemsley. Common on<br />
banks <strong>of</strong> streams on <strong>the</strong> Padang.<br />
Distribution. All <strong>the</strong> higher hills <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Peninsula.<br />

Common on banks <strong>of</strong> streams in <strong>the</strong> Padang, also at Wray's<br />
Camp. This plant, besides being a tufted erect herb, creeps<br />
with a slender stem and distant leaves. Endemic.<br />
67. Argostemma elongatum, n. sp.<br />
Stem succulent, creeping, 2 feet or less long, with slender<br />
roots from <strong>the</strong> nodes, which are 3 inches apart. Leaves very<br />
unequal, <strong>the</strong> larger ones thin, succulent, glabrous, ovateacuminate,<br />
base rounded, pale beneath, with 10 to 12 pairs <strong>of</strong>
