Stem woody, 10 inches tall or less, closely covered with<br />

short dense hairs. Leaves lanceolate-acuminate, base narrowed<br />

and decurrent on <strong>the</strong> petiole, margin dentate, herbaceous,<br />

sprinkled with hairs above, densely velvety hairy beneath,<br />

nerves 10 pairs, 6 inches long, 2 inches wide; petiole velvety, |<br />

inch long. Scape 6 to 10 inches long, velvety, haiiy. Flowers<br />

6 or 7, crowded at <strong>the</strong> tip. Bracts lanceolate-acuminate, long,<br />

hairy. Pedicels ^ inch long, hairy. Calyx-lobes lanceolateacuminate,<br />

hairy. Corolla half an inch long; tube cylindric,<br />

dilated a little at <strong>the</strong> top, maroon-red; lobes rounded, ^ inch<br />

long, yellow with broad maroon streaks. Capsule linear,<br />

acuminate, glabrous, an inch long.<br />

Wray's Camp, at 3,300 feet.<br />

This differs from typical D. fiavobrnnnea, Ridl., <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

lower part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Tahan, in its greater size, more s<strong>of</strong>tly woolly<br />

leaves, and in <strong>the</strong> different colouring <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> corolla, which<br />

is barred with broad bands <strong>of</strong> red-brown instead <strong>of</strong> a few<br />

streaks.]<br />

[DiDYMOCARPUS GRANDIFLORA, n Sp,<br />

Stem elongate, a foot long, olive-green, woody, pubescent<br />

in <strong>the</strong> young part. Leaves opposite, in pairs three-quarters <strong>of</strong><br />

an inch apart, oblanceolate, obovate or lanceolate, 1-2 inches<br />

long, obtuse or shortly cuspidate, base cuneate, glabrescent,<br />

with a few scattered pale hairs on <strong>the</strong> upper surface, beneath<br />

paler ; nerves elevated, 3-4 pairs ; petiole half an inch long,<br />

hairy. Pedicel ^ inch long, purple, glandular, hairy, axillary<br />

from one <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lower leaves. Bracts lanceolate-acuminate.<br />

Sepals lanceolate-acuminate, both glandular, hairy, green.<br />

Corolla 2 inches long; tube glandular-pubescent, narrowed at<br />

<strong>the</strong> base, <strong>the</strong>n dilate, trumpet-shaped ; lobes broad, rounded,<br />

all purple; limb over an inch across, irregular,' distinctly<br />

bilobed; median lobe <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> lower lip larger than <strong>the</strong> sidelobes;<br />

a yellow, oblong, two-horned patch on <strong>the</strong> centre <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

mouth <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tube, <strong>the</strong> rest violet-purple. Stamens 2, white<br />

filaments long, slender, rising from <strong>the</strong> lower part <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> tube<br />

to <strong>the</strong> mouth ; an<strong>the</strong>rs connivent. Style slender. Stigma<br />

circular.<br />

In forest by <strong>the</strong> stream below Wray's Camp, Tahan.<br />

Rare. I could only find one flowering plant. In habit this<br />

certainly suggests a Chirita near C. elata, but <strong>the</strong> character <strong>of</strong><br />

this genus, <strong>the</strong> bifid stigma, is wanting.]<br />

136. Parabcea leucocodon, n. sp.<br />

Stem ra<strong>the</strong>r stout, woody, simple or <strong>of</strong>ten branched, 8<br />

inches to over a foot tall; bark corky white; young parts<br />

hairy. Leaves numerous, at <strong>the</strong> tips <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> branches, oblanceolate,<br />

narrowed at <strong>the</strong> base,' subacute at <strong>the</strong> tip, 5J inches<br />

long, 2 inches wide, thick, ra<strong>the</strong>r fleshy, dull dark green above.
