97. DiPLYCOSIA BREVIFLORA, n. Sp.<br />
Epiphytic shrub with slender branches, <strong>the</strong> young parts<br />
red witli long, appressed, red hairs. Leaves alternate,<br />
obovate-obtuse, coriaceous, margins thickened with obscure<br />
crenulations, in each <strong>of</strong> which is a red appressed hair, above<br />
rugose (when dry), beneath paler dotted with depressions each<br />
containing a hair, nerves 2 pairs, very indistinct, i inch long<br />
and as wide ; petiole ^ inch long, red, hairy. Flowers in<br />
axillary pairs. Peduncles stout, rufous, hairy, ^ inch long.<br />
Bracts 2, ovate, densely rufous, hairy, appressed to <strong>the</strong> calyx.<br />
Calyx-lobes ovate-acuminate, coriaceous, dark green, margins<br />
and apex long, hairy, ^ inch long. Corolla shorter, subglobose,<br />
glabrous; lobes 5, triangular, quite obtuse, fleshy. Stamens<br />
10; filaments base broad, flat, thin, narrowed, linear. An<strong>the</strong>rs<br />
orange-coloured, minutely papillose, lanceolate-acuminate;<br />
base rounded, bilobed ; apex with two flattened, smooth, light<br />
yellow processes. Pistil glabrous, conic.<br />
Epiphytic on a tree on <strong>the</strong> ridge below <strong>the</strong> Gully.<br />
Flowers green. July 15.<br />
98. Clethra canescens, Remu-dt. A single specimen<br />
obtained on <strong>the</strong> Padang.<br />
Distribution. Java, Borneo, Celebes, and Lombok. New<br />
to <strong>the</strong> Peninsula.<br />

100. Myrsine perakensis, King & Gamble! A big<br />
shrub, with branches only leafy at <strong>the</strong> ends. Leaves oblongobtuse,<br />
narrowed to <strong>the</strong> base or rounded, stiffly coriaceous,<br />
glabrous, polished above, midrib thick on <strong>the</strong> back <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> leaf,<br />
nerves very numerous, fine, and indistinct, 4 to 5 inches long,<br />
if to 2 J inches wide. Flowers not seen, fruits in short racemes<br />
on persistent thick peduncles, below <strong>the</strong> leaves very numerous.<br />
Pedicels 4-angled, \ inch long. Sepals 5, ovate, eglanduhir.<br />
Drupe globose, ^ inch long, about 5 fruits on a peduncle^ inch<br />
long, with small ovate bracts.<br />
Common on <strong>the</strong> Padang, In dry open places <strong>the</strong> stems<br />
are thicker, <strong>the</strong> leaves shorter, rounded at <strong>the</strong> base, and more<br />
coriaceous.<br />
I have seen no specimen <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> type, but I suppose from<br />
<strong>the</strong> description this plant is what is intended by M. perakensis.
