narrow, fleshy; mid-lobe transversely oblong at <strong>the</strong> base <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong><br />

lip; one erect rounded callus, with a smaller similarly shaped<br />

one on each side, between <strong>the</strong>se a nerve elevated runs along<br />

each <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> side-lobes; <strong>the</strong> narrow linear fleshy disc runs to <strong>the</strong><br />

end <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> middle, ending in an irregular, thick, fleshy, oblong<br />

roujided callus. Column, free part short, broad, with rounded<br />

stelidia.<br />

Gunong Tahan, on trees in woods, 5,600 to 6,000 feet<br />

altitude. Endemic.<br />

Allied to E. bidens, Ridl., and E. iridifolia,<br />

with a very different lip.<br />

195. Eria Earine, n. sp.<br />

Stems terete, 2 inches tall, fleshy, covered with papery<br />

sheaths; leaves at <strong>the</strong> lip only, 3-4, oblong, linear, fleshy, 2<br />

inches long, \ inch wide, acute, light green. Racemes 1-2,<br />

erect, slender from <strong>the</strong> upper axils, 5 inches long, base nude,<br />

woolly, pubescent, red, with a few very small ovate bracts.<br />

Flowers very numerous, small, white. Bracts ovate, truncate<br />

or obtuse, persistent, red, woolly, ^-^ inch long. Ovary and<br />

pedicel longer, C3'lindric, woolly, red. Sepals, upper one<br />

ovate-oblong, laterals bluntly triangular; mentum nearly as<br />

long as <strong>the</strong> ovary, all pubescent, white. Petals linear, oblong,<br />

nearly as long as <strong>the</strong> upper sepal. Lip shorter than <strong>the</strong><br />

sepals, spathulate, apex rounded-triangular; two short, linear<br />

oblong, erect lobes at <strong>the</strong> base. Column broad, as long as its<br />

foot, purple with a very large, triangular, ovate stigma.<br />

An<strong>the</strong>r-cap broad. Rostellum short, but distinct. Capsule<br />

y\j inch long, oblong.<br />

On a tree on <strong>the</strong> Padang, rare.<br />

Perhaps nearest to E. Rimanni, Rchb. fil., but remarkable<br />

for its very small white flowers in a strict spike. A very<br />

pretty Jittle plant.<br />
