in this plant, as well as in ano<strong>the</strong>r quite similar collected by<br />

W. D. Barnes in K'luanj^ Terbang, are lanceolate and hardly<br />

cordate; but I think it is <strong>the</strong> same as <strong>the</strong> plant from <strong>the</strong><br />

Taiping hills, which I take to be <strong>the</strong> species intended by <strong>the</strong><br />

authors.<br />

117. [DiscHiDiA BENGALENSis, Colcbr. Occurs on <strong>the</strong><br />

ridges above Wray's Camp, alt. 3,300 feet. It ranges from<br />

India to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Malay</strong> Islands.]<br />

GENTIANACE^.<br />

*ii8. Gentiana MALAYANA, i^tW/. o/>. «Y. p. 316. Common<br />

on stream-banks on <strong>the</strong> Padang, and in damp spots, also near<br />

Skeat's Camp. The flowers are a pure azure-bhie; I once,<br />

however, found a pure white one on Gunong Ulu Riang.<br />

Endemic.<br />

*ii9. Canscora trinervia, Ridl. op. cit. p. 316. Common<br />

in damp shady places at Wray's Camp 3,000 feet altitude to<br />

<strong>the</strong> Padang woods 5,600 feet. The flowers are pure white,<br />

two <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> petals are smaller than <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>rs and so closely<br />

appressed that at first glance <strong>the</strong>y look like a single one, giving<br />

<strong>the</strong> flower <strong>the</strong> appearance <strong>of</strong> a Sonerila. Endemic.<br />

120. Crawfurdia Blumei, Don.; antea, p. 51. A pretty<br />

twiner with yellowish corolla and beautiful pulpy violet fruit.<br />

In woods on Observation Hill and <strong>the</strong> Padang.<br />

Distribution. Java, previously collected by Wray in<br />

Pahang. Gunong Kerbau, Perak, 6,600 feet.<br />

LOGANIACEiE.<br />

*i2i. Gaertnera ramosa, Ridl. op. cit. p. 317. Common<br />

on <strong>the</strong> Padang in <strong>the</strong> woods at 5,000-6,000 feet altitude.<br />

Flowers white. Endemic.<br />

Shrub with a brown woody stem ^ inch through. Leaves<br />

elongate, lanceolate-acuminate equally to each end, coriaceous,<br />

7 inches long, i inch wide; nerves 7 pairs, upcurved towards<br />

<strong>the</strong> margin, secondary nerves nearly as distinct, reticulations<br />

fine, distinct, whole leaf minutely punctate above, dotted<br />

beneath; petiole stout, half an inch long, winged to <strong>the</strong> base.<br />

Branch-leaves similar, nearly 2 inches long, \ inch wide.<br />

Stipules tubular, \ inch long, with 5 or 6 ribs and 5 or 6 setaceous<br />

points, usually entire, but <strong>of</strong>ten split nearly to <strong>the</strong> base. Cymes<br />

slender, base 3 inches long, with a peduncle half its length;<br />

branches few and short, <strong>the</strong> lowest a quarter <strong>of</strong> an inch long,<br />

two pairs, <strong>the</strong> rest one-flowered. Rachis minutely pubescent.<br />

Bracts, lower ones linear, setaceous, as long as <strong>the</strong> cymes,<br />

upper ones short-ovate, acuminate. Pedicels -^ inch long.<br />

Calyx small, cup-shaped, margin entire or nearly so, teeth<br />

absent or minute, pubernlous. Corolla ^ inch long, white,<br />

glabrous, tube as long as <strong>the</strong> lobes, cylindric, lobes ovate,
