One flock only was met with ; elsewhere <strong>the</strong> species is<br />

numerous, throughout <strong>the</strong> submontane tracts <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Peninsula.<br />

The only one seen, though this wagtail is usually common<br />

on forest paths up to a considerable altitude during <strong>the</strong> winter<br />

months.<br />

A rare winter visitor to <strong>the</strong> <strong>Malay</strong> Peninsula, only two o<strong>the</strong>r<br />

records <strong>of</strong> its occurrence being to hand.<br />

Exceedingly common in open spaces at 500 feet, and over,<br />

toge<strong>the</strong>r with <strong>the</strong> Flowerpeckers.<br />

This is a very characteristic submontane bird inhabiting<br />

<strong>the</strong> zone between about 500 ft. and 3,000 ft. In <strong>the</strong> coast<br />

lands it is replaced by Ae. siparaja and Ae. s. cara and on <strong>the</strong><br />

higher mountains by Ae. wrayi, Sharpe.<br />

The present species has a pleasant though feeble little song<br />

and is very active and restless in its movements. On Kedah<br />

Peak females. were curiously scarce and hardly any were seen.<br />
