A radical word is defined as a verb by <strong>the</strong> inseparable prefix<br />

ma, <strong>and</strong> a transitive or causal verb is formed as in <strong>Malay</strong> by <strong>the</strong><br />

affix kan. A passive verb is formed as in <strong>Malay</strong> <strong>and</strong> Javanese<br />

by <strong>the</strong> prefixed particle d'i, <strong>the</strong> consonant being a palatal. The<br />

prefixed particles bar <strong>and</strong> tar which are so frequent in <strong>Malay</strong><br />

have no existence in Sunda ; nor is <strong>the</strong> affix i, used both in <strong>the</strong><br />

<strong>Malay</strong> <strong>and</strong> Javanese to form a transitive verb, to be found.<br />

The adverbs <strong>and</strong> conjunctions <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Sunda difii"er from those<br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Malay</strong> <strong>and</strong> Javanese, although particles are sometimes<br />

introduced from both <strong>language</strong>s as synonymes. The following<br />
