Sumiu' (j). A spring, a well, a fountain.<br />

Sumutan (bat). Cramp <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> h<strong>and</strong>s or<br />

feet.<br />

Sunan (jav). A title <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> principal<br />

sovereigns <strong>of</strong> Java. The word is an<br />

abbreviation <strong>of</strong> Susimau, itself from<br />

<strong>the</strong> root siiun, " to beseech, to entreat,"<br />

<strong>and</strong> <strong>the</strong> meaning, " <strong>the</strong> object besought<br />

or entreated ; " v. Susunan <strong>and</strong> Susiiunan.<br />

Sunapang (du. snappaan). A musket, a<br />

firelock; v. Sanapang.<br />
