REPORT<br />
To inform Council that nominations for the Citizen <strong>of</strong> the Year are now open. An<br />
advertisement for nominations will appear in the Pilbara Classies.<br />
Nomination forms are available from local libraries, the <strong>Shire</strong>‘s <strong>of</strong>fices and on the <strong>Shire</strong>‘s<br />
website.<br />
The categories are:<br />
1. Citizenship Award for a person 25 years or older<br />
2. Citizenship for a person under 25 years<br />
3. Citizenship award for community group or event<br />
4. Sportsperson 21 years and over<br />
5. Junior Sportsperson 14-21 years<br />
6. Caring for Country<br />
This year a new category has been included ―Caring for Country‖. This award is to<br />
recognise an individual or group that works hard in a voluntary capacity to ensure that the<br />
<strong>Shire</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Roebourne</strong> is cherished for its natural beauty and to preserve it‘s uniqueness.<br />
The Soroptimists Club after 20 years <strong>of</strong> organising the awards for the <strong>Shire</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Roebourne</strong><br />
handed the running <strong>of</strong> the awards back to the <strong>Shire</strong> at a hand over ceremony on Tuesday<br />
22 September 2009.<br />
